I got the engine code p0449 on my 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, what if I don't get it fixed? critical issue?

P0449 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

Possible causes

- Purge Control Valve harness is open or shorted
- Purge Control Valve electrical circuit poor connection
- Faulty canister vent control valve

 

The canister absorbs and stores gas fumes. The gas is purged back into the intake instead of releasing it into the air. Its not a big deal, but the engine light will be on and it might effect the mpg very little if none.
