Why is the engine light ON after replacing EGR solenoid?

Why is the engine light ON after replacing the EGR solenoid? My car is a 2004 Mitsubishi Diamonte LS and the problem is code P0403.

If you didn't clear the code, the light will remain on until the car does the next self test on the egr system. If you did clear the code and it returned, then there is still an issue. It could be the vacuum to the solenoid, the wiring or the egr valve itself.
