The dealer said it is the Occupancy Sensor that is causing the airbag light to stay on the dashboard. I took it to a air bag specialist and he found this code when he did a test from his computer on Occupancy sensor and found this code: P1797 - Park/Neutral Position Switch Signal Malfunction.
I just got my transmission rebuilt by a mechanic and he's not taking blame for and says he did everything correct on wiring. The light was not on when I took it to get the transmission rebuilt and now it on. what do I do.

The dealer is charging $3000 to get the light turned off.
$1800 for the part. (Sheet that goes under the passenger seat which weighs the passenger to make the air bag go off)
$800 for labor.

"P" code is not going to cause the airbag light to stay on. The Park Nuetral switch is just a straight drop in and play. If you want the easy route you replace the seat. that has the occupancy sensor.

To replace the park neutral switch , you remove the nut that hold the shaft lever.pull the shaft lever out , remove the park neutral switch . put a new one in. reverse the order should only take half hour. You do realize the airbags been under a recall what was the code for the occupancy sensor ?
