how to fix a 1999 lincoln towncar code p0401 Exhaust Gas Recirulation valve?

Auto Zone tested my 1999 lincoln towncar because my check engine light was on.  The code showed p0401 and said Exhaust Gas Recirulation Valve was deteced.

The EGR you would have to remove the valve, what happens is it gets plugged with carbon you can clear it out with a mechanic wires, This tends to be the trend when it comes to a P0401 code., The other cause is the vacuum line even though it is tough plastic it gets brittle after time and break off.
