Would this sensor not working keep it from shifting into 4th and 5th gear

My transmission quit shifting into 4th and 5th gear out of the blue and the code po717 came up

Hi there

This can cause shifting issues. If the computer can't read the turbine speed then it has trouble determining which gear it should be in. Here is some more info on the code. On this model the sensor is inside the transmission.
