Is the transmission solenoid the likely problem

Especially when cold vehicle struggles to get up to speed and shift gears. Operates perfectly good when all warmed up

This can be the result of the shift solenoids, but also possibly there is low or dirty transmission fluid or an issue with the range sensor on the transmission.
