2004 saturn ion battery lite on after changing battery. belt is still connected to alternator.

changed out battery with new one and the battery light still comes on.

A faulty or discharged battery , or no battery , even if you jump start the engine is not going to turn the battery discharge light on, A low voltage produced by the alternator will turn the battery light on, This is where the charging system has to be checked, a good charging system is 2 volts above battery voltage.14.00 to 14.50 volts
