2011 Chevy Cruze message says "No AC due to high temperature.

Does this mean to just add antifreeze or is it something potentially more serious?

If you have to add, then you have coolant leaks, such as the radiator, cooling hoses, ect. It can also mean the cooling fan is not coming on, , so yes overheating condition are most damaging to the engine. high temperature condition wear the engine faster than anything else . So take it seriously.
