The EGR system is the EGR valve and a exhaust feed pipe. what you have is a overheated vehicle, what happens when these engine overheat it blows a head gasket, it can blow in either two ways combustion gases entering the cooling system or coolant loss through the exhaust system, either case the headgasket would have to be replaced.
