getting code 2181 coolant level is full thermostat is bringing it up to temp

Getting code 2181. Coolant level is ok. Thermostat is closing when cold vehicle warms up to half gauge then thermostat opens.

This code could be the result of a problem with the coolant temp sensor as well. It's also possible there is a wiring issue from the sensor to the computer.
