my 1998 Ford Pickup 4.2L has code "open or shorted circuit condition". what can this be?

Hi there

Without the code it's difficult to be more specific, but an open means there isn't any power getting to the device, shorted means there is ground on the power wire, or a signal wire is grounding to the engine or body.
