2005 Hyundai Elantra with code P0131, can o2 sensors be cleaned?
Of course, they can, sometimes it helps and sometimes you'll need to replace it.
you will need gasoline and a bottle. Be sure to wear gloves when touching
1. Remove the O2 sensor and check for visual damage if there is no damage. fill your container with gasoline and place the O2 sensor inside. You only need enough gas to submerge the entire O2 filter.
2. Close the container. Then gently rotate the container so that the gasoline swirls inside. This allows the liquid to wash through the sensor.
3. Let the sensor sit in the gasoline overnight. In the morning, rotate the container again to re-agitate the gasoline
4. Remove the oxygen sensor and dry it with a paper towel.
5. Install them on the car and reset the code, if it comes back the O2 sensor is bad and will need to be replaced
