Why is my transmission not going into second gear on my 1999 Ford Ranger V6?

i take off in truck it will go into second after first has pecked out and i have let go of gas paddle and gave it the gas again

If the O/D light is flashing it means there is a code stored in the transmission control module. You need a scan tool that can communicate with that module to pull the codes to know where to start looking for a problem.
