With a P0089 code and Engine light ON, what possible impact can it have on the vehicle?

My engine light suddenly came on, when i checked the code it referred to  bad fuel rail pressure sensor.

P0089  Fuel pressure faulty signal

The best way to determine this is by comparison to the fuel pressure sensor to the actual pressure. if the values are different then it would be the fuel rail pressure sensor.
