But I am afraid the exhaust heat shield is in the way of the sensor. It kind of juts out of the heat sink. Do I need to unscrew the nut that is on the sensor? If so, then the Heat shield is definitely in the way.
Vehicle: 2005,Toyota Camry V4

No you just remove the 02 sensor, it all one piece.
