My 2005 LeSabre @ 93,000 miles would not turn over yesterday when I tried to start it, but after several tries finally cranked and started. Has been starting OK since. Dealer checked and found P1819 error code. They are telling me that they need to replace the Park, Neutral Safety Switch and must pull the transmission to make the repair. Could it be a starter issue instead?

P1819 Internal mode switch - No start / wrong range

Yes , you would need to remove the transmission just to get to that switch, there would be no other way
