What does these 2 codes on a 2000 BMW 318i 1.9L, codes P0340 and P0170

HI there

P0340 is for a faulty cam position sensor on bank 1. Normally the sensor itself is the cause of the problem,but mechanical timing and wiring can also cause the code.

P0170 is for a fuel trim malfunction on bank 1.

The most common cause for this code would be a dirty air filter, faulty mass air flow sensor, a vacuum leak or possibly the front O2 sensor.
