2002 Hyundai Sonata 6 Cyl, my car had the P1529 code, and did not pass smog, the mechanic said I need a new transmission, is that correct

Hi there

This code only means the transmission control module has asked for the check engine light to be turned on. This doesn't really tell us much accept there is an issue with the transmission. It is possible the transmission is the problem, but no way to be sure with just this code.
