I get in the car it shuts off after I start it once it's put in reverse. I drive maybe a mile or 2 and overheats. Help

When you put the vehicle in reverse, the engine stalls, and there is a overheated condition. check the coolant level , and correct , a loss of coolant level will cause the engine to overheat, you would also need to rule out a mechanical condition such as headgasket,
