P0440 Saturn -

Question

MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, P0440 EMISSIONS, IM LOST I HAVE REPLACED A LOT OF PARTS, EXCEPT CANNISTER AND PURGE VALVE , I REALLY NEED TO GET THIS CAR FIXED AND REGISTERED, PLEASE HELP, IM LOST NOW. WHAT TO DO?
 I HAVE RRPLACED GAS CAP, VAC LINES, CIRCULATION HOSES TO AND FROM CANNISTER, I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO, FINANCES ARE A PROBLEM THATS WHY IM DOING IT MYSELF... PLEASE HELP.. THANK YOU

Hi there,

The code is for a bad purge solenoid. Take the solenoid out, then run a power and ground to it. You should hear it click. If it doesn't, then replace it. If it does, then you need to take a test light and check the pink wire for power with the key on. You need a meter to check the other wire for continuity to ground. If both are good, then the issue is with the computer and not the solenoid. Odds are you will need to replace the solenoid.
