I got the engine code P0171 on my 2004 Focus 2.0L how do I fix it?

Check engine light came on, car is consuming more fuel, engine seems more lazy than usual and a scan indicated a P0171 code. Any ideas?

Hi there,

This code can be caused by several things, usually the mass air flow sensor is the culprit when it's also affecting the fuel mileage. With the Focus line, you will also want to check the PCV hose. Sometimes it cracks on these and causes an intake leak that will cause a lean condition.
