On my 2004 Nissan Quest 3.5L, what tells the gauge inside the car what the temp is outside on the dash?

there is only a "gauge" inside that shows the coolant temperature sensor. there is no "gauge" for the ouside temp, if you have a temp showing on the dash its reads it from the ambient temperature sensor
