P0650 Nissan -

Question

I have a 2002 altima 2.5  4 cylinder  . I have a p0650 code.   My car is jerking . I clean the air intake component  air mass filter and throttle body.. the problem stop and came right back.   My mechanic said maybe the computer  is not working properly and is causing the car to go into a "safe mode "..whereas the car protect  the engine  by not sending  too much fuel or air in the system  which is causing the jerking and my rmp only reach 3000 ?  Is their any truth to the  diagnosis from the mechanic?

There is truth, the car will go into fail safe mode, but the code is actually for the check engine light staying on. This comes on when the car is supposed to be doing a self check on the bulb for the check engine light. The only way the car will enter safe mode is if this code is paired with another code.
