P1777 Nissan - my car wont shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, is it limp mode or a fault sensor?

Question

It was low on cvt fluid and added more just to see if that was the issue. Now as i test drove the car, it worked for a split moment but went to the same state. It would still not shift.

This code is for a faulty step motor. The step motor could be the issue, however there is also a technical service bulletin for this code.
