MY check engine light came on and I took my car to Advance Auto to have the code read. They said the code was my crankshaft positioning censer was out of alignment' and to take my car to a dealer. I took it to a dealer the next day and they Timing chain chains were stretched and needed replacement. So 2 days later they called me and said they replaced the timing chains but I had another problem, my camshaft and number 2 cylinder head needed replaced because the camshaft was moving. Said it was moving 60 thousands of an inch and my check engine light was coming on with a code P0391. My question is what harm can I do if I ran the vehicle with the code on?They said it would cost around $3000.00 to replace the cam and cylinder head.

Anytime the CK ENG LT comes on you are emitting more emission that the catalytic convertor can handle. The purpose of the CK ENG LT is to protect the catalytic convertor , If you run the engine with a P0391 you would degrade the catalytic convertor. P0391 is for the exhaust camshaft sensor performance for Bank 2.If the dealer replaced the timing chain they would need to reprogram the ecm for premature timing chain wear, This engine had a Recall for the timing chain wear, make sure the reprogram was performed then retest for P0391
