I wasn't thinking about replacing the gas cap and adding some gas treatment to my tank. Do you think I should try this before taking it to the shop. If this works, would the check engine light go off on it's on or does it have to be re-set by a shop for the light to go off?

Hi there,

This code is likely being caused by a faulty O2 ensor if you don't have any other codes stored with it. Poor fuel trims and a leak in the evap system can cause the code, but normally there would be some indication of another issue with one of the other systems. This code would eventually go off on it's own if the new gas cap solved the problem, but it would take 2 drive cycles for this to actually happen.
