We just purchased a used 2007 Jaguar Vanden Plas. Shortly after the check engine light came on after filling the gas tank. As we have had numerous Jaguars we first removed and replaced the cap which reset the check engine light. Then within 24 hours the coolant tank set the light off with a split in the tank.....that was replaced and back on our way of a 3k mile vacation. Upon return from the vacation, the check engine light came on again showing the P0128 and P0441 codes. After researching these codes it seems we may have a problem with our thermostat, but not sure. The reason I would believe it is not the gas cap this time is because the light remained after adjusting the cap.

At this point I am not sure what is going on, but am trying to avoid a 180 mile trip to the Jag dealer. If it is a thermostat issue, is it safe to drive that far or continue to drive? What are the consequences if I continue to drive it to see if the light may come on again. I would ask my dealer, but for the first time in 15 years I don't feel they had our best interest in mind when they sold us this vehicle.

Any information you may share would be helpful to me, as I am wanting to drive my car but feel there may be more to this light than I am wanting to believe.

Thank you,
Mary

P0128 Engine coolant thermostat failure

P0441 Evaporative emission control system incorrect purge

This is a thermostat issue, thermostat do fail when they do it opens too early or not at all, P0128 is a open thermostat, As for P0441 incorrect purge may just be from a purge hose that is not connected or the purge solenoid for the evap system is just non operational
