Was driving and engine started overheating. White smoke was combining from driver side under the hood. Angeles like burnt engine oil. No white smoke from exhausts while driving. No milky substance under engine cap out on dip stick. Engine stalled and eventually stopped en route. Engine cranks, but will not start. Did a diagnostics test with OBDII. Codes readP1217 and P0340. What needs to be done?

Hi there,

The code P0340 will keep it from starting . This is for the cam position sensor on bank 1. If the cam sensor fails then the computer will stop fuel and spark because it cannot tell if the engine is in time or not.

The P1217 is for the engine over temp. This means the engine is overheated and the fans can't cool it down. From your description it sounds like you blew a hose or the thermostat may be sticking closed.
