P1153 Rich to lean counts the rich to lean counts are lower than expected ( Bank 2 Sensor 1 )

The purpose of the CK ENG LT is to protect the catalytic convertor, and the catalytic convertor protects the enviroment To make the make the catalytic convertor to work properly the engine emission has to go from a lean condition to a rich condition  at a given set in time. This would be its fuel control which is controled by a functioning 02 sensor.

Your vehicle has 2 oxygen sensor one in the front which is the upstream or the engine management sensor, and the downstream 02 sensor which is the catalytic monitor sensor that monitor the working perfromance of the catalytic convertor. You would have a total of 4, 02 sensor 2 on each side of the Bank.

The catalytic convertor is non moving mechancial device, The way it control emission is by the use of a front 02 sensor or engine management sensor that control fuel and incoming air induction.

Here a graph of a good working front 02 sensor , this is a vehicle that is in fuel control

Here a graph of a P1153 , this is a degraded 02 sensor, The fix was to replace the failing 02 sensor , The theory of the OBD system is built for the 02 sensor,
