p0420 & p0404 issues happened suddenly

Question

Check engine and VTM-4 lights both come on, doesn't want to start, idles rough, doesn't want to go and then takes off all the sudden. This all started yesterday.

Hi there

P0420 code is for the catalytic converter on bank 1. If the converter is blocked or partially blocked you will have trouble with acceleration and starting.

P0404 is for the EGR valve performance. If the egr valve is stuck open the vehicle won't want to start as it creates a larve vacuum leak
