P0701 - ford freestyle 2006

cvt tranny goes forward and reverse but doesn't shift up stays in low like the belt isn't moving goes like 40 mph and reaches 7000 rpm

This code when set will put the transmission in a limp home mode, when in limp mode you will have lack of power /  accleleration and a high RPM.just what you describe is a limp home mode active, There should be other code that should be set and those has to be reolved, P0701 is more of a informative code, putting the transmission in limp mode.
