My 2000 Mazda Protege 1.6L has the engine code P0171. I lost a lot of power as soon as it got hot. Replaced the air filter and the air intake hose last year. What should I check first? MAF sensor?

Hi there,

I would start by checking for vacuum leaks. With the engine running spray some carb cleaner along the intake manifold, then see if the idle speed increases or smooths out. If not, then I would look at the maf sensor as the possible issue. Try unplugging it and see if the car has any more power. If it does, then replace the maf.
