P0420 2005 Nissan Altima Sedan - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1

This is the error code I'm getting. What should I do to repair this? Also, was there a recall on the Catalyst converter for the 2005 Nissan Altima and can I still get it done, if so? Thank you

Hi there,

Usually to resolve this code you have to replace the converter itself. This is the back bank and the converter is located right off the exhaust manifold. There is no recall for the converters on this car. Sometimes the rear O2 sensor can cause this code, but typically it's been my experience the converter needs replacement.
