PO420- jeep commander

Question

I have a jeep commander and the code p0420 and check engine light came on. Also in dash iI got a message that said programming active . Do you know what's go inning on. My car has 190,000 miles, new starter, water pump, servertine belt., tune- up. Lately I unhook my battery each day, go to work, and unhook again. The chech engine light goes out. After about a day or 2,the lights comes back on. Every so often, the engine starts to jerk, when slowing down while not using the brakes.

Hi there,

This indicates the car needs a new catalytic converter. If the converter substrate is breaking up inside it may be plugging up the exhaust at times and causing the rough running or jerking that you are feeling. With the amount of miles you have on it, I would have an exhaust shop check the system for you.
