How do I know it's time to replace the EGR valve? I got the engine code P0404

This is a 2006 Chrysler 300 3.0L. My check engine has been on and off for this reason for the last 4 months.

Some of the causes for a P0404 is high resistance of the EGR position sensor, or even an open circuit of the signal return line can cause a P0404, there is no other fix expect to replace the EGR itself
