vehicle runs fine. check engine light is on. trouble code in the OB II is p-340. I was told the alternator is causing the problem.

P0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction

On some model the alternator does cause  a P0340 codes.

 This is the type of CMP sensor that  Ford uses, On some year make and model for a Ford yes the alternator can cause a P0340 due to its charging system produces a a/c ripple. but on a 1997 -2000. P0340 is the CMP sensor.
