Local repair shop says I need new cats @ $1500.00 Says per his P2197 code troubleshooting guide (used by repair shops), cause is either a Compression issue or blocked cat. I asked if it could be a O2 sensor. He said if it was an O2 sensor it would throw a O2 sensor code. Had the compression checked. It was fine. Am I being taken on the cats. The vehicle is running great. No power loss. A little rough idle, but very very little.

P2197 Upstream H02S not switching

If your engine had a compression issue you would have misfire condition. with a lean running codes. If the catalytic was blocked you can code a IAT sensor and a MAF perfomance code, When a H02S is not switching check the connection of the 02 sensor. A disconnected H02S  can also set a P2197

This Ford H02S set a P2197 what can set a P2197 is vacuum leak such as the PCV system, air intake system leaks especially when it comes to the MAF air duct,

Here the 02 sensor , that was monitored on a scan tool, this is a fault H02S sensor, squared wave form , the fix is to replace the H02S sensor,

After the replacement of the H02S , This is a good signal, The engine is in fuel control.
