My wife's 2000 dodge neon has become harder to start in the morning and is now backfiring through carb especially going uphill. Timing belt was changed about 3 months ago because of leak around seal. The engine light will come on after a period of time and stay on. When going uphill, the light will start to blink and the engine will hardly make it up the hill. Then on even ground, light will go back to steady.

It might be an ignition coil ht leads or plugs braking down. The engine management light flashes usually with ignition faults to let you know that the cat will be damaged if you don't get it repaired. You also have a loss of power going up hill i would check the ignition system first.
