P0301 Misfire number 1 cylinder

A 1.8 volkwagon is a tubo engine. More than likely it may not even be cause by a vacuum leak. unless the vacuum leak is form the fuel injector of number  1 or at the intake manifold of number 1 cylinder.

Try this , take the ignition coil of the number 1 cylinder and move it to another different cylinder, if the misfire moves from the number one cylinder to the cylinder that the coil was moved to, the cause of the misfire would be the coil

A good place to look for a vacuum leak is the oil dipstick, on this VW  a broken oil dipstick will cause a vacuum leak.
