I just want to know what parts to buy and give to my mechanic. It may possibly be the EVAP canister or the hose is cracked or not connected. There could be a vacuum leak at the engine. Or could be purge or vent solenoid defective. Please HELP? Just bought this car 3 weeks ago!

Vehicle: 2001, Toyota, Camry, 4-cylinder

Small EVAP leak code (P0440)  are just not easy to find, The best is go with the most probable which I realize you replaced the fuel cap, which is always a good area that is most suspectable. But when it comes to a small EVAP codes on a Toyota they  are the most challenging. With all the test equiptment and emission leak tester, it comes down to experience when dealing with Toyota EVAP codes. This is a situation that has to be tested for a EVAP code

Sometimes EAVP codes are easy it most obvious, here is a fuel tank fill hose that had a rip in the hose, this was a obvious fix replacing the filler hose solved this one.

This was some what easy EVAP code find, here is Toyota this one coded a P0440 and a P0443 which is a purge EVAP code, Having a torn air duct cause a EVAP to not be able to purge.

Here is a Toyota EVAP canister, the owner of this vehicle stated the propblem was with the EVAP cansiter, the code  here was just P0440 and nothing else. Someone somewhere stated that the EVAP on Toyota is always the cause So he  wanted the EVAP canister replaced , without testing anything.this cansiter came with pressure sensor and solenoid. This did not fix P0440.

The problem was found , for P0440 which was the vapor valve. This one is not a easy job to access the Vapor valve the fuel tank had to be removed. Just to let you know there are so many possible causes for a EVAP code, such as P0440. There is nothing for you to buy or get, until the problem is found
