P0453 2002 Ford F150 -

Question

Seems that ,like me, a lot of people get this code after installing new fuel pump. My mechanic [ who installed the pump ] says I likely need a new purge valve but I have not seen that mentioned any where I look. Any ideas why this code comes on after this fuel pump replacement?

Hi there,

This code is for the fuel tank pressure sensor. This could be the result of a bad seal on the tank after replacing the fuel pump. The truck should have a smoke test done on it to determine if there is a leak at the seal. Basically the pressure sensor reads the amount of pressure that builds in the evap system, so it is possible something like a bad purge valve can cause a code like this to appear, however if it is right after fuel pump replacement then the seal is suspect.
