1996 Volvo 960 with engine code P0340. R/R new senor will not start, reinstall old senor and car starts

This is a code for the cam position sensor. It seems clear that the new sensor has a problem with either reading the cam or with the electrical. Check the connection on the new sensor and also make sure there isn't an O ring sticking in the engine. This could change the air gap and cause the sensor not to read.
