My 1998 Chevrolet Malibu has detected this code on a DTC reader 0300 01/02. can you tell me what that code means, please and should I have a mechanic fix it or can I do it? how do I fix it? When I press on the gas the car does not want to go & it is having a hard time starting. The check engine light came on also.
P0300 Random misfire
This depends on the engine size, if this is a V6 just to replace the sparkplug will be a challenge, especially the one at the rear of the engine, Let the shop do the repair, just knowing the cause for misfire will get your vehicle back on the road.
When it comes to a misfire condition spark plugs are a good indicator of the cause, worn spark plugs do create a misfire condition. and so do fail or shorted ignition coil or ignition coil pack. and even sparkplug wires
Here is a 6 cylinder Chevy with a P0300 misfire, the engine is running here and there is no spark from this ignition coil pack, and its spark terminal has corroded, the fix would be to replace the ignition coil. and the sparkplug wire, and sparkplugs,
This is a 4 cylinder Chevy the sparkplugs were recently replaced and so was the valve cover due to oil leakage in the sparkplug well. This vehicle code is a misfire cylinder 3 and 4, what is being replaced is the ignition coil pack.
