Issue with starting truck after putting gas into fuel tank, sputtering.
Have to let set for a few minutes then it will start after a few tries.
Previously changed out the EVAP Purge valve/Control solenoid at manifold and also changed out EVAP Vent Valve/control solenoid near fuel tank. Did this to take care of other codes and it ran good for a while. Then issue with starting after fueling.
My next step would be the EVAP Canister then maybe fuel pump module.
Can you help me this issue?
Guide me through best next step.
Truck has over 104,000 miles and have taken good care of it.

P0496 EVAP flow during a non purge conditon

The next best step is to take care of the code that is present. If you still have P0496 take care of this, Certain code can suspend other codes and not show up until a particular code is resolved.

The P0496 code indicates a problem with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System. The EVAP system is designed to prevent fuel vapors in the gas tank from escaping into the atmosphere by channeling them to the engine for combustion. This code suggests that there is still a flow of emission gases even when the system is supposed to be sealed. The cost depends on the problem. If it is just the Canister Purge Valve (Solenoid), parts and labor cost around $150. The most likely causes for this code include:

  • Faulty EVAP Canister Vent Valve
  • Faulty EVAP Canister Purge Valve
  • Clogged EVAP Canister
  • Faulty EVAP Pressure Sensor
