P0340 Subaru - how soon do I need to repair this

The check engine light has been intermittently turning on and giving the code p0340. It was a little harder than usual to start this morning and then stalled on me while driving. I was able to get it restarted right away. My question is how long do I have before the car stalls and does not restart? The car is a 2001 Subaru Outback Wagon VDC. Also is it an expensive repair?

Its hard to guess when it will finally quit but when it does vehcle will not start.
