02 volvo v70 has code 340, what could it be

Have engine light on car is hard to start, has loss of power and vibrates during acceleration. Has code po 340.

P0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction

With a complete failed camshaft position sensor the engine would not even start. The CMP is located on the side of cylinder head ,close to the throttle body.
