I recently took my truck in for a normal service and they told me I needed the fuel injectors cleaned because if carbon build up. The next day my check engine light turned on for the first time ever. The code read that is was the EGR valve. The mechanic now wants to put in a new EGR valve and says that the injection service had nothing to do with it. Is he telling me the truth or is he just scamming me out of another $500?

P0400 Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)system perfromance

If this code appears after the fuel injector cleaning it more unfortunate that it happened. This only proved that the fuel injector cleaning did work, one of its job is to rid the system of carbon build up, unfortunately the carbon pluggged the system. All  vehicles  should have fuel injector cleaning as part of the maintance program as for the end result if the engine had so much carbon build up, you would of had P0400 regardless of doing a fuel injector cleaning or not.
