I would call a local dealer and see if your car applies for an recalls 

the 2007-2008 GMC Acadia had issues with the timing chains but its possible to have a mid 2008 (which is sold as 2009)


The service bulletin suggest replacing the primary drive and both secondary drive timing chains. Contact your GMC dealer for more information. The repair could still be cover under factory warranty.
