97 jeep wrangler sahara pass. side rear axle if broke will drv shaft turn free no power 2 wheels?

Passenger side rear wheel wobbled after being hit by another vehicle. My mechanic said replace passenger side axle to fix. was backing out of driveway & heard a pop in rear end now drive shaft turns free as of no gears exist. Is axle still likely problem or need a whole new rear end.

Depending on how the rear was hit , its to your advantage you replace the whole differnetial with a used one.
