does p0017 mean i need a camshaft positioning sensor

my pontiac 2007 g6 gtp 3.6 has code p0017 the car runs great except for a drop in gas milage do i need a new camshaft positioning sensor?

This means there is a difference in the cam and crank sensor that is out of range for more then 16 seconds so the code is stored.If this code is set it usually indicates a problem with the CMP actutor solenoid. Low oil pressure can also cause this problem. The sensor isn't bad, the solenoid is not advancing the exhaust cam so the code is set.
